I always make it a point to stop by and take a dip in Balmorhea springs. My dad took us when we were kids, I took my girls and now we take my 2 year old grandbaby. It's an Oasis in the middle of a dessert. I have always loved diving off the high diving board into fresh deep water that's 75° year round.
Went to the natural spring in late August. Not too busy in the afternoon and empty in the morning. It is a very beautiful little spot with diving boards and refreshing cool water. The town is very small but the park is lovely. We stayed in the cabins and they were old but clean and cozy.
Beautiful oasis in the desert. Nice nature trail; we saw quite a bit of wildlife. Adequate lodgings if you're spending a night or two. The pool is the jewel, of course. Crisp, clear water with lots of little fish (and a big catfish). Has a small concession stand.
We camped overnight at an RV hookup spot and loved the facilities. Covered picnic table and clean restrooms. The pool is amazing! Crystal clear water, shallow end to play with kids. Wear water shoes though because the algae can get slippery. Great trees shade for picnicking. People bring some pretty elaborate setups: pop-ups, grills, chairs, music. It's a fun place!
It's an okay place. No warm pool. Cool and little fishes in it. 10 minutes from the highway. There is hot shower in the park $7.
